The MIITE Dataset offers original time-series cross-national data on the initiation, existence, termination, and extent of military involvement in the economy in the form of running and owning for-profit enterprises. It covers all countries with an existing military and population above 500 thousand from 1950–2024.

What the data captures
For each military-run enterprise, the dataset records:
Name of the enterprise, subsidiaries, and parent companies
Date established or brought under military control; date disbanded or removed
Size of the enterprise and sectors of the economy it operates in
Extent of military control and operational capacity of the enterprise
Specific branch of the military in charge of the enterprise
Year military initiated economic activities and how involvement changed over time
Access the data
